One of the most common questions we hear: “Can I order custom wine bags without committing to thousands of units?” The answer is yes. Depending on the material you choose, minimums start as low as 100 bags — fully custom-printed with your logo. This guide breaks down minimums by material, helps you figure out how many you actually need, and explains how to get the best per-unit price at lower quantities.
Minimums by Material
Cotton / Canvas — 100 units
The lowest minimum in our entire catalog. Cotton wine bags like the 2 Bottle Heavyweight Cotton Canvas are available with custom screen printing at just 100 bags. This makes cotton the best option for small wineries, boutique retailers, and anyone testing custom bags for the first time.
Non-Woven — 200 units
The most popular material for wine bags. The 1-Bottle Non-Woven Wine Bag, 2 Bottle Sundowner, 4 Bottle Great American Tote, and 6 Bottle Great American Tote all start at 200 units. A few styles start at 500. At the $0.59-$3.00 per unit range, a 200-bag order is a modest investment.
Insulated — 200 units
Insulated wine bags with thermal lining start at 200 units. The Insulated 1-Bottle Tote, Insulated 4 Bottle Wine Tote, and Insulated 6 Bottle Tote Bag are all available at this minimum.
Laminated — 2,500 units
Laminated bags with full-color edge-to-edge printing have the highest minimum. The Double Delight Laminated Bag and other laminated styles require 2,500 units. If you need full-color printing at a lower quantity, consider a non-woven or cotton bag with multi-color screen printing as an alternative.
How Many Do You Actually Need?
Most buyers either over-order (and sit on inventory for years) or under-order (and run out mid-season). Here’s a simple way to estimate.
Tasting room / retail: Estimate the number of wine transactions you process per month. Multiply by 6-12 months depending on how far ahead you want to stock. Add 15% for spoilage, giveaways, and staff use. A tasting room that sells 100 bottles per month needs roughly 700-1,400 bags for a year.
One-time event: Order one bag per expected attendee, plus 15% buffer. If your event has 300 guests, order 350 bags.
Wine club: Order one bag per active member for your next shipment cycle. If you have 150 members and ship quarterly, you need 150 bags per cycle — 600 per year.
Corporate gifts: Order the exact number of recipients plus 5-10% extra for last-minute additions and damaged bags.
Getting Better Pricing at Low Quantities
Custom bags get cheaper per unit as quantities increase. If you’re ordering at or near the minimum, here are ways to get more value.
Order one size up from minimum. Going from 200 to 300 bags often drops the per-unit price by 10-20%. The incremental cost is small but the savings compound.
Stick to one color imprint. Single-color printing is the standard and is included in all quoted prices. Each additional print color adds cost. If budget is tight, a well-placed one-color logo looks professional and keeps costs down.
Choose non-woven. At any given quantity, non-woven will be the cheapest option. If you’re testing the waters with custom bags, start with a 200-unit non-woven order before investing in premium materials.
Combine styles in one order. If you need both single-bottle and multi-bottle bags, placing one combined order can sometimes reduce shipping costs versus two separate orders. Call us at 877-334-5323 to discuss bundling.
What If You Need Fewer Than 100?
Our lowest minimums are 100 units (cotton) and 200 units (non-woven). We don’t currently offer custom printing under 100 units because the economics of screen printing don’t work at that scale — the setup cost per bag becomes prohibitive.
If you need fewer than 100 bags, two options: order the 100-unit minimum in cotton and use the extras as gifts, samples, or future inventory. Or contact us to discuss unprinted stock bags that can be ordered in smaller quantities — you’d handle the branding yourself (stickers, stamps, hang tags) rather than screen printing.
