If you run a grocery store, supermarket, co-op, or specialty food shop, the bag your customers carry out the door is either working for your brand or being thrown in the trash. A custom reusable grocery bag with your logo does both jobs — it replaces disposable bags and turns every shopping trip into brand exposure. This guide walks you through the decisions that matter: material, size, printing, quantity, and budget.
Start With How Your Customers Shop
The right bag depends on your store format and your average transaction size.
Full-service grocery / supermarket: You need a standard grocery-sized bag that handles a full cart of items — produce, cans, boxes, bottles. The Metro Reusable Grocery Bag and Original Standard Grocery are the top sellers for this use case. Both are non-woven, available in 20+ colors, and start at 200 units.
Small specialty / natural foods: Your customers are often buying fewer, higher-value items. A premium cotton bag like the Cotton Canvas Reusable Grocery matches the boutique feel. Minimums start at 100 units.
Farmers market vendor: You need bags that are lightweight, stackable, and cheap enough to hand out at volume. Non-woven is the clear choice. The Original Standard Grocery at the $0.59-$3.00 tier is built for this.
Frozen and cold items: If your customers buy perishables that need temperature protection during the drive home, the Enviro Sack Thermo Tote adds thermal lining to a grocery-sized bag. Browse our full insulated bags category for more options.
Extra-large loads: For warehouse clubs, bulk food stores, or stores where customers load up, the MEGA Shopper Extra Large Grocery handles oversized and heavy items that don’t fit standard bags.
Choosing a Material
Non-Woven Polypropylene
The default material for custom grocery bags and what 80%+ of our grocery store customers order. Non-woven is lightweight, tear-resistant, water-resistant, and takes a clean screen-printed logo. It’s also the cheapest option per unit and has the fastest turnaround.
Price: $0.59–$3.00 per bag
Minimum: 200 units
Turnaround: 4-5 working days
Printing: Screen print, 1-4 spot colors
Durability: 300+ uses
Best for: High-volume checkout bags, everyday grocery shopping, promotions and giveaways
Cotton and Canvas
The premium option. Natural fabric, machine washable, biodegradable. Cotton bags cost more per unit but customers perceive them as higher value and keep them longer. Popular with organic grocers, co-ops, and specialty food stores.
Price: $3.01–$7.00+ per bag
Minimum: 100 units
Turnaround: 5-10 working days
Printing: Screen print, 1-4 spot colors
Durability: Years of regular use, machine washable
Best for: Boutique grocery, organic and natural food stores, loyalty rewards, premium packaging
Laminated
Full-color CMYK printing edge to edge on a water-resistant, rigid bag. Laminated grocery bags look sharp and hold their shape. The tradeoff is a higher minimum (2,500 units) and longer lead time (60-90 days).
Price: Varies by size and customization
Minimum: 2,500 units
Turnaround: 60-90 days
Printing: Full-color CMYK, edge-to-edge, all panels
Durability: 500+ uses
Best for: Grocery chains with high volume, stores with complex branding that can’t be screen printed
Insulated
Grocery bags with thermal lining for perishable transport. Essential for stores in warm climates or stores that sell a high proportion of frozen and refrigerated items.
Price: $3.01–$7.00+ per bag
Minimum: 100-200 units
Turnaround: 4-5 working days
Best for: Supermarkets, meal kit services, grocery delivery, any store where cold chain matters
Sizing
Most custom grocery bags fall into three size tiers.
Standard grocery (roughly 13″ x 10″ x 15″): Fits a typical shopping trip — 10-15 items. This is the Metro, the Original Standard, and most non-woven grocery bags. The right size for 90% of grocery store use.
Compact / medium (roughly 12″ x 8″ x 13″): Slightly smaller bags for quick trips, express lanes, and convenience stores. The Solana Reusable Tote fits here.
Extra-large (roughly 20″ x 10″ x 15″): For bulk purchases and oversized items. The MEGA Shopper Extra Large Grocery handles what standard bags can’t.
Most grocery stores stock the standard size as their primary bag and add an extra-large option for customers who need it.
Printing Your Logo
One-color logo: Included in all standard pricing. The most cost-effective option and all most grocery stores need. A well-placed one-color logo on a colored bag is clean and professional.
Multi-color logo (2-4 colors): Available on non-woven and cotton via screen printing. Each additional color adds a small per-unit charge.
Full-color photography or complex art: Requires laminated bags with CMYK printing. 2,500-unit minimum.
Both sides: Print your logo on the front and your website, phone number, or tagline on the back. Doubles your brand visibility for a modest added cost.
How Many to Order
Small store (under 500 transactions/week): Start with 500-1,000 bags. At non-woven pricing, this is a modest investment that covers several months of checkout operations.
Mid-size store (500-2,000 transactions/week): Order 2,000-5,000 bags. You’ll go through them faster than you think, especially if you’re replacing disposable bags at checkout.
Supermarket or chain: 5,000-25,000+ bags. At this volume, per-unit costs drop to the low end of the price range. Laminated bags become cost-effective at 2,500+ units.
Tip: Order 15-20% more than your estimate. Running out and reordering mid-cycle costs more in setup fees than ordering slightly over the first time.
